If you are a visitor or newcomer to St. John’s, we welcome you to our worship this morning! Please introduce yourself to the clergy and join us for Coffee Hour in the Lower Parish Hall. If you have any questions or there is any way we may be of service, please speak to the clergy, the greeters, a vestry member or whoever is sitting near you. We’d love for you to provide your contact information in the Guest Register at the back of the church.
Please note that Ben Brockman will be substituting for Virginia during her sabbatical leave. Ben’s contact information is in the parish directory. His contact phone is 860-512-0428 (home) and 203-260-2583; but because of the frequency of robo calls, he rarely answers immediately but checks for messages regularly.
Now through the end of September, produce from our organic garden needs to be delivered each week to The Cornerstone following the 10:00 am service. Please sign up in the Narthex if you are able and willing to do this. We are already working on the organic vegetable and fruit gardens. Good things are growing and more remains to be planted. We are looking for planters, weeders, harvesters, mulchers, waterers to keep the garden growing and thriving, into the summer and early fall months. If you would like to focus on a particular vegetable or fruit, that is also a way to help. The garden is a key element of how we put our faith into action and engage in the mission of God at St. John’s and in the town of Vernon; it takes a village to make it go and grow. We are in especially critical need of people able and willing to deliver the produce to the Cornerstone!!!! Please see Letty or Sarah if you are able to help in ANY way this coming season. Thanks.
Happy summer, everyone! Summertime on the St. John’s campus is the perfect opportunity to stop, look around, and see our abundant blessings. The labors of our volunteers are evident everywhere – in the organic garden (recently fortified against our woodchuck and rabbit neighbors), in the flower beds that provide three seasons of blooms, and in the impressive sweep of our large lawns. Over the years we have been very fortunate to have a dedicated group of parishioners willing to mow (and weed whack) the lawns of our campus. Having volunteers take on this responsibility saves St. John’s a tremendous amount of money that otherwise would be handed over to a landscaping company. It is a faithful and visible display of stewardship, as well as a few peaceful hours in the sun*. This dedicated crew is in need of new recruits! Please contact Don Wills at 860-528-8920 if you can help keep our grounds looking clean and trim. Please note – the lawns are mowed in sections at different times by different people; no one has to do the entire lawn alone. Even an hour or two a week, chosen at your convenience, would be a huge help. Please consider lending a hand. Faithfully yours, Alicia di Leo and Don Wills, Wardens (*Don’t forget your sunscreen!)
HOME AWAY FROM HOME MINISTRY: This ministry involves putting together & mailing a care package once a semester for one of our college students or persons in the military to remind them that their St. John’s family is thinking about them. My contact information is 860-645-6660 or via email at email@example.com. If anyone is interested in learning more about this ministry and/or joining the team of Volunteers who have the pleasure of making someone’s day a little brighter with a personal care package of goodies, I’d be happy to speak with you as well. Thank you to everyone involved in this ministry, and I look forward to the continuing future of Home Away From Home. Jackie Petrizzo
Dear Rev. Virginia Army & Mr. Clarke, I am writing to thank you for your generous Marianne Wellner Memorial Scholarship. I was very happy to learn that I was selected as a recipient. I am a political science/human rights major. I plan to pursue a career in law or government upon graduating from Harvard University. Thanks to you, I am one step closer to that goal. Your award has lightened my financial burden and inspired me to help others and give back. Sincerely Heba Mohamed 7/8/19
