The members of the Altar Guild in 2014 were: Carole Cronsell, Mary Wilson, Sue Douglas, Carol Nelson, Pauline Savage, Betty Sweet, Lois Valliere, Dorothy Morganson, Linda Borovicka, and Alfreda Barber.
The Altar Guild has enjoyed another year of service to St. John’s, assisting Virginia, visiting priests, Bishop Laura, and also were privileged to serve with our Seminarian, Jane Hale.
We have completed replacing our candles with the refillable ones and have recognized a savings overall. We are grateful for the support of Paul Brown and Bill Gutzmer, who also help us to keep them filled. We continue to purchase our flowers from Michelle’s Florist on Route 83 in Vernon. We continue to forgo the larger, more expensive bouquets for the Sunday altar, and have found that the smaller ones that they are providing are just as beautiful and certainly more cost effective. We will continue to order the larger bouquets for special events and for special requests. Alfreda Barber, our resident florist, has been very helpful in assisting us with getting the bouquets ready for delivery every week. We thank the Flower Ministry for all they do to make sure the flowers are delivered to those not able to join us on Sunday or celebrating a special occasion. Thank you all for your donations to the flower fund throughout the year. The Eternal Remembrance Fund is also offered to remember a loved one forever. Please contact a member of the Altar Guild if you would like more information.
Easter preparations went along as usual, with help from members of the parish who assured that the church looked its best for the Resurrection Services. We are so blessed to have so many willing participants in assisting us.
There are just too many people to thank regarding the Christmas decorations this year. So many parishioners stayed after the 10AM service to help us get the church looking just beautiful.
Virginia calls our Christmas decorating “an annual miracle” and this year is no exception. We also had help again from our young adults who moved the decorations from storage in the choir loft to the back of the church almost too swiftly for us to keep up with. They are a blessing
It is especially wonderful to have so many non- Altar Guild members helping us. It shortens the time we have to stay and some of the volunteers are so proficient with the decorations they don’t even have to ask where things go.
We cannot thank Paul Brown, Bill Gutzmer, and Ron Cronsell enough for their assistance and support of the Altar Guild. We thank the many people of Saint John’s who assist us on a weekly basis and provide encouragement and support.
Sadly and suddenly in March we lost Jackie Carmichael to heaven’s table. We will miss her shining smile and know that she is with our Lord, setting His table now.
Our own Betty Sweet has left us to relocate to warmer and sunnier shores. We know that she won’t miss our cold weather, even if we do miss her and wish her well.
We are looking forward to welcoming additional members in the 2015 year to our special ministry. — Respectfully Submitted Carol Nelson and Lois Valliere
