The Outreach Committee supplements the generosity of parish members and organizations, for example, the Youth Group, the ECW, the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, the Environmental Ministry, and the volunteers at the Cornerstone Soup Kitchen.
At Thanksgiving we were able to contribute 25 Thanksgiving baskets for distribution by HVCC and the Brotherhood. Our Christmas program obtained donations of gift cards and funds for The Cornerstone.
We are continuing efforts to help rebuild the Episcopal Church in Haiti by contributing to St. Vincent’s Center for Handicapped Children, with our efforts channeled through the Friends of St. Vincent’s. During the summer we collected enough materials to fill two barrels which were shipped to St. Vincent’s Center.
The parish also collected clothing and supplies for The Cheyenne River Lakatoa Indian Reservation and gave to the yoked Episcopal Parishes on the Reservation.
Our food ministry is vigorous with parishioners making weekly donation of non-perishable food goods, about half of which are donated to the Cornerstone. The other half is given on a monthly basis to several local families as need arises. And teams comprised of members of St. John’s make and serve a brunch at the Cornerstone soup kitchen every Sunday. — Tom Sessions, Outreach Chairman
