Who we are

We are:

St. John’s Episcopal Church

Vernon, CT 06066

Our website address is: http://stjohnsvernonct.org

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

By default this site does not collect any personal data from visitors, the main exception being those who use the “Contact Form“ which requires a name, a phone number and an email address. This information will be contained in the email sent to the Parish Administration (i.e., Priest.) and maintained for whatever time period is deemed necessary.

The only “registered users” to this site are it’s Administrators. The only data required from them is a contact email address and a nickname. This and and additional but unnecessary data supplied is displayed on the User Profile screen.=

Comments

This site does not allow visitors to leave comments, therefore is impossible to report how long said information is maintained, and what it is used for.

Media

Likewise, visitors are not allowed to upload any images, audio files or similar media files. Anyone who uploads media files is assumed to be a hacker, and is held personally responsible for determining its maintenance specifications (besides being held in contempt).

Contact forms

As mentioned above, this site has one or two Contact Forms for anyone who wishes to use them. The name, email address, and phone number contained in the email sent to the Parish Administration (i.e., Priest.) is maintained for whatever time period is deemed necessary.

Cookies

Publishing Cookie Policies is all the rage lately, thanks to the EU. These Policies contain lengthy description of every phylum, class, order, family, genus, and specie of Cookie.  As far as I can see, they are most all alike.  So, if you must see one, a typical one can be seen seen here.

The code in this site that is created by and for St. John’s does not contain any Cookie Code, however, it is built on a foundation of WordPress and related plugin code.  That code does use cookies.  The following simmarises that usage to the best of my understanding.

When an Administrator logs into this WordPress based website, WordPress will set up several cookies to save their login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If the Administrator selects “Remember Me”, the login will persist for two weeks. If the Administrator logs out, the login cookies will be removed.

If the Administrator edits or publishes an article, an additional cookie will be saved in their browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article. It expires after 1 day.

When anyone first visits this website, WordPress will set a temporary cookie to determine if their browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when they close their browser.  Otherwise, since visitors do not log in, therefore, none of the earlier cookies will be set.

On the other hand, embedded plugins may use cookies and their privacy policies need to be considered:
Plugins that interface with Google APIs such as Google Maps and YouTube have cookies the assist in functionality.
The Plugin that allows content on this site to be shared on social media APPs have a functionality assisting cookie.
Although you enter some personal data in the contact form, its plugin does not (1) track users by stealth; (2) write any user personal data to a database; (3) send any data to external servers; or (4) use cookies.

Embedded content from other websites

This site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.) from other websites. If you have an account and are logged into one of these websites, they may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, however, we are not responsible for their privacy practices

Analytics

By default this site does not collect any analytics data. However, many web hosting accounts collect some anonymous analytics data. Presently, this site has not installed a WordPress plugin that provides analytics services.

Who we share your data with

By default This site does not share any personal data with anyone.

How long we retain your data

If you send a Contact Form message, the message and its metadata are retained as is deemed necessary by the Parish Administration (i.e., Priest).

Website Administrators can also see and edit their information at any time.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left a Contact Form message, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor Contact Form messages are maintained in the Church Office. They are not sent elsewhere.
